All three deputies at the Energy Ministry must go down too-IES

The Executive Director of the Institute for Energy Security (IES), Paa Kwasi Anamua Sakyi, has suggested to President Nana Akufo-Addo to sack all three deputies who worked under former Energy Minister Boagye Agyarko.

A statement signed by the Head of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, announced Mr Agyarko’s sacking on Monday evening over the botch renegotiation of the controversial $510 million Ameri deal. Mr Agyarko had argued that the new deal would have saved Ghana $405 million but his critics, including workers of the Volta River Authority (VRA) said it would rather cost the nation $472 million more.

In a statement, the IES said Mr Agyarko must not fall alone. “It is common knowledge that the Energy Minister, Mr. Boakye Agyarko doesn’t work alone. The Honorable Minister, in addition to his three deputies, worked with a 7-member committee comprised of representatives from the PURC, Ministry of Finance, VRA and the Attorney-General, who recommended the Novation Amendment Agreement to the Minister who, in turn, forwarded same to the President.

“IES calls on the President to sack all the three Deputy Ministers of Energy, namely; Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam Anta (in charge of Petroleum), Hon. William Owuraku Aidoo (in charge of Power), and Hon. Joseph Cudjoe (in charge of Finance and Infrastructure).

IES will be very shocked if any of these persons is given the opportunity to become the substantive Minister of Energy. We also ask that the Committee should not be left off the hook”.

Meanwhile the sacked energy minister, Boakye Agyarko, has in tweeted “when the dust settles” he will respond to all allegations and circumstances leading to his sacking.

Also the head of communications for the Energy Ministry, Nana Damoah, resigned moments after he hinted of exposing all other government officials who contributed to the controversial Ameri power renegotiation deal.

Nana Damoah alleged that the sacked energy minister, Boakye Agyarko, was not entirely to blame for controversies surrounding the controversial Ameri deal as there are other people involved. His post which subsequently had been deleted read; “It’s time for the emails. Let’s play. He is to blame abi? He did it alone right? Ok?”
