AgriHouse CEO makes an intervention for women in Agriculture

Executive Director for Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa has admonished government and other stakeholders to pay more attention to women in agriculture in order to bridge productivity gap that exists between them and their male counterparts.

According to her, women in agriculture do not receive adequate support in their quest to feed the nation, despite their immense contribution in the sector.

She said women contributes about 43 percent of the agricultural labour force globally, almost 50 percent in Sub- Saharan Africa and about 52 percent in Ghana, yet little attention is paid to enabling them maximize their potentials.

Nana Akyaa Akosa gave the admonition in a interview with Diamond news on the sidelines of the 8th Pre-Harvest Agribusiness Exhibition and Conference and event in Tamale.

The Agrihouse Executive Director, lauded government’s efforts at redirecting the passion and energies of the youth into agriculture saying the policy will motivate many more youth to venture into agriculture.

She also advocated government’s facilitation to easy finance as well as market access. Education and training workshops on agribusiness she said are also important in helping the youth in agriculture.
