• Tamale Archdiocesan Development office of the Catholic Church launches BRIDGE project to promote quality education in 20 selected schools in the Northern Region

The Tamale Archdiocesan Development office of the Catholic Church has launched a project titled: Building Resilience for improved Development and growth of pupils Education (BRIDGE) to support some selected schools in the Northern Region.

The BRIDGE project is part of efforts by the development wing of the Catholic Church to support the School health education programme (SHEP) of the Ghana Education service.

The BRIDGE project would in the next 36 months work towards ensuring the retention and academic performance of children in some 20 selected schools by up to 70% by 2021. The project would also ensure an improved access and practice of proper personal hygiene and sound environmental sanitation in the chosen schools.

Speaking to Diamond News after the launching ceremony, the quality control coordinator, David Y. Issaka, stated that the BRIDGE project will work in 20 selected Basic Schools spread across 7 MMDAs, in the Region. These include Tamale metro, Sagnarigu, Savelugu, East Gonja Kpandai, and Tolon District.

He said since the launch of the National SHEP policy implementation guidelines by the Ghana education service, very little had been done to holistically implement the SHEP POLICY in all schools across the country due to the non availability of resources.

‘’The archdiocesan development office TADO, has continually played a key role in education and health service delivery in the northern Ghana through various service intervention, “Mr. Issaka said adding that:

‘’With the BRIDGE project in hand, we are determined to make a significant contribution to ensuring that students stay in school all year round by improving their health status through regular health screening, treatment and improved access to sanitary facilities’’

In his statement read on his behalf, the northern regional minister SALIFU SAEED commended, TADO for such initiatives saying the regional coordinating council will work closely with Archdiocesan Development office in Tamale to make the project sustainable.
