• NHIA to deploy an electronic system of validation and prompt reimbursement to health service providers

Deputy Director of claims at the Northern regional office of the National Health Insurance authority, Isaac Gideon Akonde has laid the blame of delays of reimbursement of claims at the door step of service providers.

Isaac Akonde explained that, the delays by many service providers to furnish the authority with relevant documents for validation and onward reimbursement had occasion the delays. According to him, the authority verifies every claim before payments are made.

He stated that in resolving the challenge, management of the NHIA would soon deploy an electronic system of validation that will allow service providers to send claims electronically for easy validation and quick reimbursement of service providers.

Speaking to Diamond news on the sidelines of a voluntary blood donation exercise in Tamale, Mr. Akonde stated that management of the scheme is collaborating with government to find sustainable ways of funding the scheme.

Service providers under the health insurance over the years have always had difficulties with the scheme managers over the delays in reimbursement, of which some of the service providers claim was leading to the collapsed of their operations are health service providers.
